Adventures In Thrifting

Thrifting with a toddler is a whole 'nother adventure.  At every stop she tells me that she doesn't like carts.  Well, if you can imagine all of the touching that goes on without the restraint of a cart.  Yeah, not pretty.  Yesterday we went into one small thrift and I didn't put her in the cart...well she sought out every.single.ceramic.animal.  "Oh mom, look at the kitty!  Kitty poopin'!"  Oh dear.

I've found that fifty cents will save me every time.  Fifty cents will buy what I call, Sanity Savers.  You know, things like this...

We are the proud owners of that lovely ladybug candle.  It's huge.  We have a smaller one somewhere that we bought about a month ago.  Well, of course, the big one had to come home with us yesterday because it's the Momma Ladybug!

Or ceramic birds, such as this...please note the broken wing...

She is also at the age where she is trying to figure out language, putting people with labels, etc.  It was pretty hilarious.  There is always that one person in the thrift that you want to tell to buzz off.  You know you've been there.

"Oooh!  You're finding things?  What are you going to do with this stuff?"  As this woman stalks my cart full of gnarly treasures, my daughter asks if this lady is a Mimi.  I told her that she might be a Mimi.   The lady pleasingly smiles and asks if a Mimi is someone's mom.  I said, "No, a grandma."  Her smile quickly turned sour.  :::snicker:::  I'm not sure who she thought she was fooling.  Clearly, she was old enough to be a grandmother.  If you don't want 2 year old calling you out, then I suggest you throw a little color on that gray.  I'm just sayin'.

Do You Feel Neglected?

I'm so sorry for neglecting my sweet blog.  I've been trying to stock up my Etsy shop.  I told myself I couldn't shop anymore until I had every thing listed...yeah right.  Who am I fooling?  I just know that there is a poor, neglected, greasy bread box out there in some lonely thrift waiting for my rescue.  I'm just sayin'...

My daughter starts Montesorri preschool in a few weeks and  I will have 2 days a week to shop a-l-o-n-e- while she is at school.  I am so thrilled!  She just doesn't see the beauty in the brass candlesticks and wants to ride in the big part of the cart where I need to heap my treasures.  I hope she is friendlier than this when she goes to school.

I have listed a lot of new beauties on Turquoise Rollerset this past week.  Please come and visit!  Here is a peek of what's new...

Dremel Love

I was considering purchasing a Dremel tool but I thought I wanted to try one first to see if I got the results I was looking for.  I called my dad who has every tool known to man.  He had one.  Wonderful.  Well this was the Mother of All Tools.  It wasn't a Dremel but a the giant older brother to the Dremel by Craftsman.  It only had one speed and that was Arm Removal Speed.  I was really afraid I would lose a hand, let alone try to hold the thing with one hand.

Off I went to the local hardware store and bought my very own...drumroll please...Dremel 3001.  I love this thing.  Why didn't I get one a long time ago???  I just wish they made it in pink.  Now I need some cool safety glasses.

I really got a lot of work finished this weekend.  Saturday it rained, it poured, it was ridiculous.  This was NOT good weather for painting.  I managed and got all of my painting finished on Saturday.  She was exhausted...

Wait, I mean I was exhausted.

I Should Get Up

I have a lot to do to prepare for my weekend.  I am going home to UC to get some work done for Turquoise Rollerset.  Really, it makes no sense to drive 90 minutes to paint, but yeah, it does.  You see, I have this 2.5 year old wild thing...she's busy.  She's really busy.

She does thing like collect eggs in cosmetic bags from the refrigerator.

I really never know what's next.  She continues to surprise me freak me out with her antics.  She's quick.  She's clever.  She's hilarious.  The good thing is that at the end of the day she's knocked out.  I only wish I could fit in a toddler bed.

So this weekend she can hog the bed with her Mimi, she can drag her Mimi around begging her to swing, spray her with the hose, water the plants, etc.  Sometimes this momma needs a break.

I found the mother load of inventory these last 2 weeks.  The back of my truck looks like the Beverly Hillbillies though...but why bring it in to only load it back up to paint it all?  Ok, this is not my truck and it's not this bad, but I'm just sayin'.  There's a lot of crap in there.

So instead of being productive I am sitting here savoring my coffee and watching Curious George while being offered a ceramic bird that the wild thing has hijacked from a vignette somewhere around here.

Wow! Thanks for the exposure!

What a great day it was in blog land for me today!  I woke up to a kind email from Meaghan at Urban Farm Designs.  She featured my Aqua Corner Shelf for Turquoise Tuesday on her blog.  Thanks, Meaghan!  Check out her cute blog and read about her amazing biking trips.  I'm exhausted just reading about the 47 miles she biked!

My friend Tara, over at Waterwaif, featured my Under The Sea Coasters on her blog for Tempt Me Tuesday.  Please check out Tara's blog and Etsy shop.  She makes some amazing jewelry.  I'm loving this seahorse necklace she created.

Finally at the end of the day I get an email from SweetAnneVintage.  She featured my Cast Iron Cross in her Shabby Chic Cottage Treasury on Etsy.  Thanks so much for the exposure!

Around To It

Welcome everyone~

I finally got around to it...creating this blog.  It was suggested to me several months ago that I create a blog.  I don't know...I'm not a huge fan of writing and besides, who would want to read about my junking, painting, chasing of a wild afro child?

I also finally got around to starting and opening my Etsy shop, Turquoise Rollerset.  I have been making, creating, and building treasures for months.  It seems that I fall in love with every thing I make.  The truth is we live in a 2BR apartment...how much stuff can a person have?  I decided to just jump and open the shop.  I made my first sale on Etsy 2 days ago and I felt like a kid at Christmas.  Yesterday, I made 2 sales in the afternoon and I had to call my mom because I was so excited.  I actually scared her on the phone.  Sorry momma.  The utter excitement is that this is stuff I created, not someone else's stuff.  I'm not always sure there are other people that get me...get what I see.  You know the confused face..."yeah, that's cute"...not always convincingly so.

So welcome to my blog.  Thank you for following me and I hope at some time or another you find something at Turquoise Rollerset that you fall in love with.  I will be adding more features here as I get the hang of it.  Until then you can view my shop on Etsy by clicking the link or see my showcase of items to the right and click there.
